Senate Armed Services Committee Approves McMaster Nomination for Reappointment to Lieutenant General

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate Armed Services Committee met in executive session and voted 23-2 with 2 abstentions to favorably report the nomination of Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster for reappointment in the grade of lieutenant general to the Senate. The nomination of Lieutenant General McMaster was immediately reported to the floor following the Committee’s action.

Note: The appointment of the National Security Advisor does not require the advice and consent of the Senate. However, consistent with title 10 section 601 of U.S. Code, Senate action is required in order for Lieutenant General McMaster to be reappointed to lieutenant general while serving as the National Security Advisor.
